This lovely , traditional cross bears full English silver hallmarks for the year 1942.
It measures 1 and 11/16” (4.3cms) long by 1” (2.5cms) across. It weighs 3.2 grams.
The front has delicately shaped ends and chevron engraved sections at the top. The lower section has more traditional foliate engravings.
At the top there is a hole in the end which carries the bail.
The reverse is plain except for the hallmarks.First there is the maker’s mark ‘H.W’ for Lee and Wigfull (formerly Henry Wigfall established in 1879). Then crown mark for the Sheffield assay office, the lion passant for sterling silver, the date letter ‘Z’ for 1942 .
In excellent vintage condition, this very rare and beautiful cross will arrive in a gift box.
