This lovely ivy overlaid cross is unmarked but tests as sterling silver. I am dating it to circa 1900.
It measures 2 and 1/8” (5.3cms), including the ring, by 1 and 1/16” (2.7cms). It weighs 4.3 grams.
The silver on the front is overlaid with ivy leaves which trail down the arms, overlapping the edge. The ivy was of course the Victorian symbol of remembrance. At the top is a ring, engraved to resemble a woody stem. There is a bail for a chain.
The back is blank but curiously there are three rivets . I just wonder whether originally they held a crucifix on the front.
This unusual cross with very slight signs of age will arrive in a gift box
