This lovely French silver and garnet glass dates to circa 1900-1910. It tests as 800-900 silver quality and there is a boar’s head hallmark at the top of the reverse of the crucifix.
The rosary measures 21½" (55cms) around, including the centre. A further drop of 5 and 3/8" (13.5cms) includes the crucifix. It weighs 33.4 grams.
The rosary has delicate, garnet glass beads, faceted to catch the light. They really have all the fire of real garnets. They measure 6mms wide. They are connected by sturdy lengths of silver chain. At the centre is an exquisite puffed heart. It is engraved on both sides and inscribed ‘Sacré Coeur’ (Sacred Heart).
The drop is composed of silver chain and more glass beads. It is finished with a crucifix 1 and 5/8” (4cms) long. The crucifix is pierced with delicate arm ends. The corpus is finely sculpted. The reverse is also exquisitely decorated.
This lovely rosary is in fine antique condition with only small signs of age on the beads. It will arrive in a gift box.
