VERY SWEET MATCHED PAIR OF tiny, small or miniature Native American Indian plains dolls. They are possibly Sioux or Lakota. Their tiny bodies are made of old cotton sugar or flour sack fabric and the same leather that matches their clothing. Both dolls are completely hand made and hand sewn with thread. HER little dress is thin native hide, hand cut, sewn and fringed exactly like a little girl's. She has a glass beaded front and back yoke and a matching glass beaded choker. Her sweet leather face has beaded eyes and mouth, a spot beaded headband and real human hair done in traditional braids. Her exposed arms are matching leather, her waist is wrapped with a leather spot beaded band. She wears matching leather spot beaded leggings and moccasins. HIS clothing consists of a traditional leather shirt with over the shoulder matching glass beaded strips. Hand cut fringe is sewn on the backs of his sleeves. His exposed arms match the leather of his sweet beaded face. He has beaded eyes, mouth, and nose. He wears an older leather headband and has human hair loosely braided. He has a tiny spot beaded loin or "hider" cloth that is made and sewn on him absolutely correctly for a warrior on horseback, not just a flap in the front and back. His leggings are sewn with a side seam leaving a side flap. He has matching (to her dress and his shirt) beaded strips down the front of his leggings. Just above his leather moccasins you can glimpse hes cotton body.
Beads on both dolls are glass and are matching in the following colors: Opaque: Periwinkle blue, Cornflower yellow, Maroon, Red, Italian white and black. Leather matches on both dolls with the exception of his headband, but I believe it to be original.
CONDITION: Good! Both dolls show handling, and have laid flat for many years causing the fringe not to lay straight but do not have any damage other than the bottoms of their moccasins. Their little feet have been mistreated!! It appears their feet were glued to a base at one time. The good news is it only shows if you lay them down, on a little stand you do not see this. Pairs of native dolls are usually more valuable, but I have adjusted the price for this damage.
SIZE: HER: 4 1/2" Tall by 2" Wide: HIM: 5" Tall by 2" Wide
CIRCA: 1930's to 1940's
THOUGHTS: Tiny dolls make great gift stuffers or are adorable tied on top of gifts. The cutest Native American themed Christmas tree I have seen was decorated with tiny dolls, cradles, moccasins and so on. They also look adorable grouped together!
