NATIVE AMERICAN INDIAN Man's Osage beaded and fringed moccasins. This pair of moccasins is made of thick, native hide. They are both thread and sinew sewn, have a welt between the upper and the commercial leather sole. They have short hand cut fringe on the vamp and longer hand cut fringe laced together to close the heel seam. The bead colors are: transparent navy blue, light red, and light green, the opaque colors are: Cheyenne pink, Italian white, and okra yellow. Please take just a moment and study the photographs, these colors are put together to form a very visual pair of moccasins. The moccasins have turned down cuffs with a row of beading and alternating red and blue edge beading. The moccasins also have long split tongues again with a row of beading and alternating red and blue edge beading. I believe they are Cheyenne made, they have the turned row of beading across the top (under the tongue) and at the heel they have a turned row of beading on each side of the heel fringe lacing. At one time they were lightly ochred (yellowed) between the two lanes of beading on the vamps. This is a style of moccasin that was prominent among many of the male straight dancers in the teens to 1960's.

CONDITION: Very Good. They show soiling and wear. The leather is showing some age pitting and darker coloring (not soil). The heel fringes are soiled but are not stiff or breaking, they are still soft. The cuffs are soiled but soft and will flip up. The soles show wear, but I don't see any place where there have been holes or repairs. All seams are strong. The tongues show soiling and wear but are strong, their tips are intact and still beaded. The right moccasin has two places where there are some missing beads. On the outside, approximately 3" from the toe, there are 4 vertical rows of beads missing. The same moccasin, back towards the heel, top perimeter row there are 2 vertical rows of beads missing. Original ankle ties are still tied and are soft.

SIZE: LENGTH: 10" plus 4 to 5" of heel fringe WIDTH: 3 3/4"
