CALIFORNIA KARUK OR YUROK BASKET MAKING tribes weave some of the finest baskets in the world. This beautiful woven traditional center with open wicker weaving surrounding it is a design that the tribes from the Klamath River area have been know to make since World War II.b Called by most "a wall hanging basket" or "wall plaque", it makes sense because most of their creations were large bowls, hats, etc. The native materials used to weave this "wall hanging basket" are: willow root (buff), bear grass (ivory), woodwardia fern stem dyed with alder bark (rust), maidenhair fern stem (black), and willow shoots (foundation). I am showing two tribal affiliations for the basket, I am honestly not sure which is the correct affiliation, however, it is from the Klamath River area.
