Vintage parure obtained from the estate of a lady who purchased much of her lovely jewelry from the iconic May Company known for selling very upscale items. I believe this set dates to the 1930's and like many of the items sold by the large and influential department stores, the designer names are not on the items, but simply have the May Company tags on them. This set has the May Company price label on the back of the brooch only.
As you can see from the pictures, the necklace is very unique in design with the chains on each side hanging free form and very artistically. It measures approximately 20" long around the neck with a 3" extender and the continuation of the chains dangling under a beautiful poured glass flower are 5" in length. The approximately 1 1/8" x 1 1/4" earrings are clip on and in perfect working order. The brooch measures 2" diameter and the clasp works well and stays closed tight.
The floral design of this set is comprised of heart shaped yellow poured glass petals enhanced by white faux pearls, round green glass beads, aurora borealis rhinestones all on gold tone hardware. The flowing necklace chains are gold tone and in fantastic vintage condition with only slight darkening on the hook, very common from being handled and exposed to perfumes, hand lotion, etc. The earrings are in perfect condition. The brooch has some verdigris around the tiny rhinestones but nowhere else so I think this could have happened because of perfume spray. There is also a touch of verdigris on two of the necklace rhinestones which is almost undetectable. I think this can be cleaned but I don't try to clean these delicate pieces for fear of ruining them. I have priced the set accordingly.
The set consists of faux pearls, poured glass heart shaped petals, forest green round glass beads, pale green round beads, yellow chunky center glass beads, aurora borealis rhinestones, gold tone linked chains, smooth liquid snakelike chains, and textured woven chains and shiny gold tone
The construction of this set is very similar to one of the top designers of that era, but unless I can verify through photos or signature, I leave it up to my clients to determine. This is a very beautiful, well constructed parure using quality hardware and beads and is very unique in design. The necklace weighs 134.2 grams. I can see this gorgeous necklace gracing the décolletage of a v neck dress and garnering lots of ooh's and ah's.
