Outstanding Original Oil Painting Portrait of a Championship Ribbon Winner American Champion Boxer named "Ch. Dempsey's Copper Gentleman".... Beautiful!
This beautiful dog is listed on the American Boxer Club website as a Sire of Merit, and a son of Jered's Spellbinder (sire) and Fontana's Crimson Mist (dam). From my research, I have found that this stunning dog was a ribbon winner at show in 1962 for the Working Dog group. I have also found on the American Boxer Club Hall of Fame page that CH Dempsey's Copper gentleman was handled at show in 1962 by a renowned Dog Handler Joseph E Gregory, who later became a legendary dog show judge.
This painting is signed by the artist D Shourds, with the artist's Mississippi City address and full maiden name on back..
Dalton Shourds King was an extremely talented painter and illustrator of books, such as "Sons of the South"..
This painting truly portrays this Champion Dog's striking beautiful, her shadows capturing this dog exceptional muscle tone, color, stance, handsome face, truly an incredible animal and work of art! The portrait is further enhanced with the gorgeous blue mountain landscape background.
Oil on stretched canvas, the painting itself measures 16" x 12", in wood frame measures 19" x 15".

The Westminster Kennel Club describes the Boxer as follows:

The boxer is a highly intelligent, medium-sized, square dog with clean lines and balanced proportions. He was refined and bred from ancestors in Germany called Bullenbeisers – historically used to run down and hold large, formidable game animals, such as bear and boar. Today’s boxer is fearless but tractable, energetic and wonderfully patient with children. Extremely intuitive, he is at all times responsive to his master’s moods. He is the ideal family dog, but can be protective when called upon. Not a dog for the frail or timid, he is boisterous and clownish, cherishing his toys and his family into oldest age.
