THis opulent and complex brooch by Stanley Hagler NYC is Spring personified. It is so refreshing and renewing just like the season itself. And it is visually glorious. Stanley Hagler started making jewelry on a whim in the 1980's and his success lead his designers to form Stanley Hagler NYC after he died. THis new company continued to make larger than life jewelry that was often outrageous and just like the original company continued to service the rich and famous. This particular brooch is definitely a statement piece. Besides being huge the pin is beyond wonderful. It is circular and actually is a pin on a pin. THe circular wreath is infused with eight flowers made from small lime green beads (they have a carnival glass shine to them) that constitute the petals. There is a large yellow thermostat bead in the flower's middle and it is topped with a rhinestone. The yellow beads are not solid yellow but rather have yellow swirls within the casing. They are most probably hand blown. One of many special accents. There are small yellow enameled flowers implanted on the inner rim of the wreath. Here too the centers are yellow rhinestones. There also are sand colored prong set oval glass discs that also encompass space on the inner rim. All this is hand wired onto a cut work metal circle. What an array of beauty! True to a high quality piece, when the back of the flowers are looked out, they are decoratively etched! Over all this glorious flora there is a large butterfly resting on the flowers. The butterfly itself is large measuring 2 1/8"w x 1 1/2"h. The butterfly is Russian gold plating and the outspread wings have small flowers with tiny ruby red stones in their middles. There are four Swarovski crystals surrounding the butterfly. The wings are layered on the body. THe butterfly has an antique look to it. Although it seems quite content resting in this enchanted garden, it is clear he can take off at any minute. THe back of the pin has a second decorative openwork wreath upon which all of the previously described elements are attached to. There is a safety lock on the pin itself. THe oval identification panel stating "Stanley Hagler NYC" is affixed on the back. The brooch is in excellent condition....no issues. THe brooch measures 2 3/4" in diameter. Stanley Hagler jewelry in many ways resembles Haskell jewelry. This multi layered pin is larger than life, opulent and outrageous. It combines contemporary design with more classical components. Craftsmanship of this caliber is rarely seen. This multi dimensional work of art is sure to elicit comments.
