This stylish and substantial belt by deLillo was created in the late 1960's by the House of deLillo Ltd which opened its doors in 1967. The House of deLillo was a collaboration between two exceptional designers Robert Clark and William deLillo. Clark was a former head designer for Miriam Haskill and deLillo designed for Tiffany's and Harry Winston's. Their jewelry combined fine components such as Swarovski crystals and quality beads into creations that were "over the top" and had the WOW factor. This team ceased production in the middle '70's and they went to France when they enjoy sculpture and designing for such houses as Schiaparelli and Nina Ricci. Since production of their pieces was limited to only a few years, these gems are rare and highly collectible. The "best of the best" as their jewelry is regarded commands a high price and is much in demand. THis particular piece is conservative but obviously a finely crafted piece. It is gold plated a deep goldtone and just by looking at it one can sense its hardiness and strength. What I am saying is that it is not a flimsy belt but it is rather vibrant and well put together. It has a chunky appeal. The belt consists of 41 solid panels that have a pebbled texture. In between these panels are rings (actually rectangles with curved corners) upon which the panels connect. The panels are "rolled" on their backs and the rings fit into these slots. Imagine the workmanship that went into designing and crafting this piece. At each end of the belt there is a round decorative piece. It is a slightly raised sphere that is etched as if it is a twirling through the air. It is surrounded by a twisted goldtone border. At one end there is a hook connected to the back. At the other end there is a decorative braided goldtone ring. THe hook and the ring connect to close the belt. THe back of one of the round decorative end pieces has the deLillo signature etched in an oval cartouche. The belt measures 38"in length and it is 7/8"'wide. It can be used as a waist belt or a hip belt. THe belt is in great shape. THere is slight fading of the gold wash on the decorative ends but I think this is a result of age. Not a big deal. THis belt is smart and sophisticated. What a great addition worn at the waist of a short black dress or worn at the hip of a long black dress. It would definitely add class, drama and style in a very easy way. Condition: Almost Excellent VINTAGE Condition
