THis Haskell demi parure, circa 1950's. is an example of why Haskell jewelry remains so collectable. Miriam Haskell, an American designer of costume jewelry, created affordable costume jewelry that was meticulously created and delicately designed. She is known for her opulently adorned jewelry items often set in Russian gold tone with rhinestones and filigree work. THis necklace has it all. It is choker style and uses creamy sand colored glass beads that are smooth and shiny. These slightly opalescent satin pate de Verre beads (a form of kiln casting of the beads) are slightly irregular in shape, some being perfectly round while others are a bit larger having a slight angular shape. You can feel the texture of these beads. You have to look very carefully to see this as it is very subtle. THese creamy beads have small crystal beads or large multi faceted crystals in between them. Sometimes there is a combination of both types of crystals used as spacers. There is a large and very stylized "flower" that hangs off the necklace and is its pendant. It consists of poured glass stylized "petals" done in the same creamy beige color. THese petals have decorative crystals interspersed among the leaves giving the flower additional interest. The petals have a spiky shape. THe middle of the flower holds a large oval poured glass stone and smaller beads surround it. The flower is multi layered with petals being placed upon petals thus giving the flower dimension. The spiky petals point upwards again giving it additional depth. This is all done with wire work. The flower rests on a filigreed goldtone backing. This back plate has the oval cartouche stating "Miriam Haskell." The necklace has an extender chain of 2 3/4" and it closes with a hook closure that has a small beaded flower charm on its front. The hook has Miriam Haskell engraved on the back. The earrings are screw back type. THey are round and simulate a flower. The same beads as in the necklace are used. There is a large creamy multi faceted bead in the center and smooth round beads and crystal spacers surround it. Miriam Haskell is stamped onto both metal backings of the earrings. THe necklace measures 13 1/2"long adding 2 3/4" for the extender chain. THe pendant is 2 3/4"long and 2 1/2" wide. The earring have a diameter of almost 1". THe set is in wonderful condition. I do not see any real issues. This set is charming and feminine. Yet its stylized floral pendant sets it apart from most Haskell designs. A great necklace and earring set!
