Offering a vintage beaded evening purse from France, circa 1950-60. It was bought in the prestigious Washington D.C. store Garfinckel's & Co, which was a chain of stores that sold only high quality merchandise. It went out of business in 1990. This particular purse lives up to Garfinckel's reputation. It is quite large for a bag of this genre. It is covered with both round tiny black glass seed beads that are sewn in swirls and also other beads that are shiny and more tubular shaped. This gives the beading a twinkling effect. Then there are other shiny beads that form three dimensional flowers. The beading in gorgeous. The frame, likewise, is stunning. The front and back of the goldtone fame has slightly raised flowers and leaves. They are silvertone, although they originally might have been goldtone which has rubbed off. However, it is consistent over the entire frame (excepting right under the clasp (unseen when closed) and it actually looks lovely. The rhinestone flower on the clasp replicates the beaded flowers on the body of the purse. The inside of the frame is etched with chevron lines evidence of a high quality item. The clasp is the focal point of the purse. It is large (1"h x 1"w). There is a modified openwork flower that is covered with rhinestones. It is anchored on a goldtone background. The flower is dimensional. There is a beaded carry strap with a drop of 6". The inside is lined with a satiny black fabric and there are 2 open slip pockets. It is very clean without signs of usage. Hand sewn labels indicating "Hand Made in France" and "Julius Garfinckel&Co. Washington D.C. " are inside. The measurements are 8"h x 9"w x 1+"d. This purse is in great condition. It is stunning, a real eye-catcher. It is elegant and timeless. An example of the best of its time! Condition: Excellent VINTAGE Condition
