Offering vintage purse by Martin Van Schaak circa 1960. Martin Van Schaak, a great influence on Judith Leiber, custom made his designs for his wealthy clientele of celebrities, government officials (Jackie Kennedy) and socialites. His purses are of the highest quality with care to design, craftmanship and style. His creations are unique and highly sought after by purse collectors. THis purse is amazing and definitely avant garde for the time period in which it was made. It is covered with a "wild" fabric whose pattern reflects the 1960's. It is 3 shades of blue: sky blue, peacock blue and navy blue. Essentially these three colors divide the bag background and there are silver zig zag and angular lines running up and down and across. Striking and startling. There are 3 straps of the same fabric attached to the front and back of the purse which becomes the carry strap. These straps cross over the top of the bag at different corners (see pictures). It is difficult to describe in words but adds to the unusual design of this purse. There are 2 open sections inside and one closed compartment. The gold/beige satin lining is fading somewhat in spots. Inside there are 2 slip pockets and one zippered pocket. It is stamped in gold "Martin Van Schaak New York". The dimensions are 8"w x 7"h x 3"d. This purse reflects the time it was created in that it is wild, overt and dramatic. It is "statement" purse that works with jeans or formal dress. Just fantastic! Condition: Excellent Vintage COndition
