Vintage Leiber Wide Suede Belt with Huge Medallion

If you have been reading the fashion magazines lately, you have learned that wide belts are the trend right now. In 2019 Dior showcased one third of his models styled in oversized belts. Now celebrities such as Nicole Kidman and Shailene Woodley have been seen wearing these belts and now the trend is full on. Remember, fashion is cyclical, what's next? This Judith Leiber belt is an early creation of Judith Leiber. It is probably from the '70's judging from her signature as identification on the back. The belt is extra wide measuring 39" from end to end. It has a huge medallion at its center (5 1/2"h) and the belt tapers to a width of 2 1/2" throughout the length of the belt. It is covered with a plush jet black suede that is soft to the touch. The inner side is a black leather. The medallion is huge. It measures 5 1/2" x 3.25". It is a work of art. It is bright gold tone metal. The subject is a hunter who is holding a staff and accompanied by a lamb. The background is a textured gold and the hunter protrudes and has tremendous depth. He is immensely detailed as is the lamb. The oval medallion is bordered by a trellis of intricately molded roses. Just gorgeous! Jewelry quality, this medallion is a the ultimate statement maker. The belt closes with hooks being inserted into holes ("eyes"). The belt can be adjusted so that it can be reduced to 35". The belt is in great condition with minor indications of age or usage. As indicated, the belt measures 39" from end to end 37" from hook to eyes, x 2 1/2". I can't imagine the price of a belt like this being made today. Being vintage, it is a real bargain.
