It is not often that one finds a Judith Leiber bag where the carry chain is the show stopper element. This early Leiber bag has such a chain as well as other decorative elements. It is on the small side, rectangular in shape with a fold over flap. It is made from the skins of the karung lizard, an exotic skin that Leiber preferred to use. These skins have very small scales and when dyed a light color the scales take on a pattern against the background which is not seen when the skins are dyed a dark color such as black. Interesting enough, this bag seems to be show both a pattern with a muted cerulean blue background on some areas while most of the bag is black on black. The trim, the gussets and the bottom have these dual colors while the rest of the bag is singularly black. In addition, there is passementiere embroidery on the front, back and partially on the sides that replicate the skins diamond shape pattern. Not done yet because the piece de resistance is the gorgeous chain that has large links in the shape of the number eight. Half of the links are covered on one side with clear Swarovski crystals while the other links are a bright gold metal. This chain is definitely jewelry quality. It has a drop of 20". The bag closes with a snap that is on the inner side of the flap. The inside is lined with a black satin fabric. There is a zippered pocket and an open one. The gold tone metal panel stating "Judith Leiber" is affixed inside. The inside show some signs of wear and age but nothing significant. The bag measures 6"w x 6"h x 2+". The bag is in great condition but it is obviously vintage. Again, nothing terrible to note. There are some missing crystals from the chain but again not many. This is an "oldie but goodie" that has a lot going for it. It is has style and enough glitz to make a statement. And oh, that chain! Condition: Excellent - - VINTAGE Condition
