This purse belongs in the OMG or WOW club! One does a double take when looking at it at first glance. Who could have designed such a masterpiece and we all the know that answer, the one and only Judith Leiber. Perfect for the mother of the bride or for anyone who needs a gorgeous dressy bag in the silver family. This purse is elegant, feminine, graceful and charming but it has a bold quality to it too. The bag is typically shaped with the bottom being wider than the top. It is very rounded and curved. The body is covered with a silver grey silk fabric. It is on the light side and is very luxurious looking. Very soft to the touch and very regal. There is ruching at the top which results in deep pleats. There is a magnificent stylized embroidered pattern of flowers that is enhanced with beading. There are tendrils of stems, leaves and flowers.
The embroidery stitch appears to be the silk screen stitch and it outlines the foliage. The stems and the flowers are beautified with sequins and beads. The outline of the flowers and such is done with muted colored threads such as lavender, mint green, off white and silver. The beads and sequins are silver and a sparkling creme color. And then there is the electric blue beads that are used throughout and meander up and down the stems and across the flowers. This bolt of color is electric, dramatic, alive and shocking. It transform the entire pattern into a dynamic and powerful palette. It cannot be said how significant this embellishment is to the appearance of the bag. The frame is covered with the silk fabric and it is scalloped. There is a large push down silver metal clasp with a large domed lapis lazurli marbleized stone at the top. The color of the stone coordinates with the dynamic blue glass beads. There is a jewelry quality silver chain that can be tucked inside using Leiber's optional hardware. The drop is 18". The inside is lined with the same silver silk fabric. There are two open slip pockets and the silver panel stating "Judith Leiber New York" is affixed inside. There is a small silver coin purse and a JL silver rimmed mirror. The inside is in great condition with little indications of use or age. The purse measures 8 1/2"w x 6 1/2"h x 2"d. The purse is in great condition with minimal vintage signs. It is amazing how the addition of one element can completely transform a bag. Judith leiber knew this and this is way she is the "QUEEN of Wearable Art." Condition: Excellent Vintage Condition
