Offering a vintage Martin Van Schaak purse from the 1960's. Martin Van Schaak did not sell his unique handbags but went to his wealthy clients' homes to custom design purses with them. His clientele included society's elite, celebrities and wealthy patrons. He greatly influenced Judith Leiber's designs. This purse exemplifies all the qualities of a Martin Van Schaak handbags: unique designs, innovative use of high quality jewelry ornaments, bold colors, and expert craftsmanship. The purse is a variation of the Kelly bag and it uses the primary colors of yellow, blue , green and red and combines them with gold metallic stitching creating a unique pattern. These colors are designed in vertical stripes with small natural toned threads horizontally crossing the stripes, which are not perfectly straight but have a curve and a sway to them (see pictures). The strip that is the handle begins at the bottom of the right corner and continues up and over the purse where it ends at the right corner on the back. On the front, this strip has 3 delightful jeweled butterflies. Two are encrusted with green glass stones and rhinestones while one is covered with blue stones and rhinestones. There are two tiny green stones missing from the first butterfly, but you have to carefully look for it to notice it. These butterflies give the bag an airy and cheery look. The purse has two open sections and a closed compartment that shuts tightly. It is lined with a green satin like material and is very clean. There is the Martin Van Schaak gold imprint on the inside and there are 2 open pockets as well as a zippered pocket. The dimensions are 7 1/2"w x 6"h x 3+"d. This purse is spectacular and appears never to have been used. There is one small thread out of place on the side but again you need to be looking for it to find it.Somehow while having a slightly nubby look, it, at the same time, appears classy and refined. Quite an accomplishment! That was Martin Van Schaak!!!!!. COndition: Excellent Vintage COndition
