If your outfit needs a statement piece, this necklace by Pauline Rader is for you. The necklace is in the Etruscan style, a period before Ancient Rome. However, I can easily see it on Elizabeth Taylor in the movie Cleopatra. Pauline Rader, a mid century designer, was very familiar with this style and most of her pieces exemplify ancient civilizations.
This necklace is extra large. The bold chain links can be doubled and the drop is 17” on each side. When a hook is unlatched, the chain is a single strand with a drop of 34” on each side. SUPER LARGE! Could it have also doubled as a belt, I don’t know. A huge pendant is attached to the chain. It measures 7” in length to the bottom of the attached tassels. It is 2” wide and is dimensional sine it has a pouch/pocket like accent. This can be left empty and fulled with one’s favorite trinkets or charms or even a dainty handkerchief ( providing a counter point to the bold necklace). It is heavily carved with deep scroll work which is plated with 18k gold as is all of Rader’s items. The are two thick gold tone tassels hanging from the pendant. The back of the pendant has a gorgeous filigree plate. The “Pauline Radar cartouche is affixed in the back. The necklace is in great shape, the hook is a bit tarnished. This is a heavy, chunky and thick statement piece. Not for the faint at heart. Would look great as you step into your milk bath a la Cleo!!!!
