If Dorothy needed a purse to match her ruby red shoes, this would be the bag! What a color!!! This bag was designed especially for the ultimate luxury department store, Bergdorf Goodman, in the 1950's. During the mid century, cocktail parties were the "thing" and consequently many fabulous evening purses were created in France and elsewhere. People dressed up then and bags matching their cocktail dresses were a necessity. This ruby red purse makes a statement just with its color. It is regal, rich and so sophisticated. It is silk and very soft to the touch. It has actual folds and it also has creases that represents linear lines. The sides come out to a point, a shape that was commonly found in evening purses. There is thin gold braiding at the sides. The frame continues with the sophisticated theme. It has a slight curve and is gold tone metal that has black enameling in between the gold borders. One side of the inner frame has gorgeous deco engravings, a indication of a luxury bag. The clasp rests on top of the frame. It has a deco appearance. It is an antiqued silver tone and is tiered. It is encrusted with many clear and shiny crystals. It clicks shut. Gold rectangular hardware connects the ruby red silk strap. It has a drop of 5". The inside is lined with an oyster colored satiny fabric. There are two open pockets. Gold lettering stating "Made in France for Berdorf Goodman" is imprinted inside. There are a few indications of usage but essentially it is very clean. The measurements of the bag are 9"w x 6 1/2"h x 1 1 /2"d. The bag is in great condition. It does not look as though it just came out of Bergdorf Goodman's but there aren't any specific or significant issues to note. Just minimal indications of age and usage. It is a gorgeous retro reminder of another age. Condition: Excellent - VINTAGE Condition
