Jacomo was an upscale boutique located in NY at 25 E61st. They were only in existence for a short period of time,1961-1964. James Kaplan and Heidener Lasurenz specialized in one of a kind handbags that were imported from France or Italy. These bags were described as ultra rare pieces of fashion distinction. Their bags are not commonly found and all are well made, distinctive and gorgeous! This bag is no exception. It is small to medium sized and has both curves and straight lines. It is made from the skins of the karung lizard, (Judith Leiber exclusively used these skins) and they are dyed a deep jet black. The skins are not rigid but are very pliable. There is a shine to the skins. There is ruching at the bottom which creates tucking at the bottom. The frame is very linear. It is silver tone and the front has four rows of tiny marcasites tightly set. However, it is the long and narrow clasp that takes center stage. It is a bar that lifts upwards. It has a slender onyx bar that is shiny and flat. It has a surround of marcasites that sparkle and shine. The top of the clasp has an engraved deco design. The back is silver tone and is tarnished and in need of a polish with "elbow grease." The clasp is slightly higher than the rest of the frame. There is a lovely silver tone link chain with a drop of 18". The inside is lined with a silver grey satin fabric and there is an open slip pocket. The fabric label stating "Paris Jacomo Made in France" is affixed inside. The inside is in great condition with only the most minimal signs of use. The measurements are 8 1/2"w x 6"h x 1 1/2"d. The bag is in wonderful condition. As stated, the silver on the back of the clasp has tarnished. I know this would clean up with polish, I have seen worse tarnish disappear with tarnish remover and "elbow grease." In fact I have started to remove some of the tarnish but my time allowance doesn’t allow me to finish it. You just need time and persistence. This is a lovely well made bag that is timeless and smart. It is a rare find and because of its versatility it will quickly become one of your favorites. Condition: Excellent- VINTAGE Condition
