Here's the rub: Although this bag has all the characteristics of a Judith Leiber bag, there isn't any identification plaque. If I had to place a bet( and I'm not a gambler), I would bet on it being the real thing. Several other companies produced similar bags to Leiber, but to the trained eye, there are differences to be found. I cannot find any reason not to consider this a Leiber bag, even though it does not have the identification. Perhaps it was a prototype made back in the 1980’s.However, I am pricing it as if it isn't Leiber. It is the bargain of all bargains. This exotic skin handbag has been dyed a mocha color, which is a remarkable neutral light brown that coordinates with almost every other color. (Fabulous with khaki). It reminds me of the color of a cup of hot chocolate...that's how yummy the color is. Very unusual for a shade of brown. The bag is on the large size and is very curvaceous. It is covered with the skins of the karung lizard, an exotic skin that Leiber exclusively used. The skins have been glazed so that there is a shine. There is ruching at the top resulting in soft pleating. Leiber did all her ruching by hand, not by machine and the results are obvious. The gold tone "frame" directly rests upon the stepped top of the bag. The frame is angular and linear. It is stylized slender large triangles attached to one another. The shapes are cut out and the lizard skins appear underneath. Depth and dimension result. There are connecting gold tone squares each centered with a tiger eye stone. The frame is the same on the back. It is simply designed but makes a large statement. The bag opens/closes in an unique manner. There is pull out gold tone square hardware at the end of one side. It has the center tiger eye stone. It is pulled out in order to open the bag. Quite a unique opening. There is a flat and substantial gold tone serpentine gold chain that has a drop of 22". It can be used or tucked inside using the optional Leiber hardware. It is jewelry quality. The inside is lined with a dark chocolate leather (faux???) There is a zippered pocket. The inside is in great condition. The measurements of the bag are 10 1/2"w x 6 1/2"h x 1 1/2"d. The bag also looks as though it was rarely used. I guess this is a mystery that will remain unsolved. But if it quakes like a duck, it must be a duck. If it looks like a Leiber, it must be a Leiber? Condition: Excellent VINTAGE Condition*
* An identical Leiber purse is listed presently on another site with the identification panel for $685.
