This purse, made in Italy for Saks Fifth Avenue, perfectly epitomizes the vibe of the '60's. It look like it just came out of the shop and perhaps it was recently made as homage to that era. Or perhaps it is a holdover from that era in super shape.
I don't know the actual age of creation but I do know the depicted age. It is so groovy! It is a medium sized shoulder bag that can be used as a clutch. There is a fold over flap and the bag is very curvaceous. There is ruching at the bottom resulting in folds that start there and go upwards. The fabric is similar to bark cloth but I don't think it is cotton, more of a blend of different fibers. The print is what brings us back to that decade. It is very colorful with bright primary colors dominating the design. It seem to be "atomic" like since the shapes depict the shape of "flying saucers." It is very geometric. This type of palette was very common back then since it was the beginning of space travel. The shapes seem to be flying throughout the off white background. It is busy and statement making. The bag closes with a snap and the carry strap has a drop of 23". The inside also is so retro. It is lined with a gold lame vinyl that is treated as fabric. (the plastic is not thick but pliable). There is a zippered pocket and the fabric label stating "Saks Fifth Avenue Made in Italy" is affixed inside. The inside is spotless. The measurements are 7 1/2"h x 7 3/4"w x 11/2"d. The purse looks like it was never used. This bag is so much fun. It is retro and has a vintage vibe. It is cool, whimsical and groovy. Can you "dig it." Worn with a white or black outfit....OMG!
