Judith Leiber selected a purse with a similar design to be pictured in the pamphlet that is available at her museum located in East Hampton New York. The purse in the pamphlet is a "cousin" to the purse being offered today. It is quintessential Leiber with her favorite shape, favorite exotic skin and a frame which exemplifies Leiber's unique style. Please see the last picture which shows a similar bag in the Leiber pamphlet on page 20. The bag is medium size and is very rounded. The python skins are a deep ebony black and they are glazed to a high shine. The skins are in great condition without any up lifting of the scales. The skins are gathered or ruched at the top resulting in gentle pleats and folds. Leiber hand ruched all her bags unlike other manufacturer's whose pleating were machine made. The frame is a gold tone metal that is scalloped at the bottom. It too is curvaceous. There are thin lines that follow the scalloped form. They are very "wave like." There are three large onyx stones each set in its own gold tone bezel. They are oval in shape. They protrude and create dimension and depth. The frame is just below the skins and a small part of the skins show above the frame. This little detail provides additional interest and is so Judith Leiber. The frame on the back has the engraving but does not have the stones. The clasp has a push down mechanism and it too has a oval onyx stone with a gold tone bezel. There is an carry strap made from the python skins, the drop is 18". Leiber's optional internal hardware is inside enabling the strap to be tucked inside or worn as a shoulder bag. The inside is lined with a black grosgrain fabric. There is a zippered pocket and an open one. The gold tone Judith Leiber identification plaque is affixed inside. A small grosgrain coin purse is included inside and it comes with its original light blue dust bag.The inside looks as though the purse was never used. The measurements are 9"w x 7"h x 1". The purse is in wonderful condition without any significant issues to note. This bag is typical Leiber. However, unlike others, it can be dressed up or down. It is very versatile and can easily go from day to night. Just one look and the quality and creativity of the bag is obvious. Not many designers can accomplish this.
