Towards the end of the 20th century, Jane Goldban created a fashion brand that mixed the old with the new. Usually a new body was "married" to a vintage and antique frame. Her creations were a great success and were sold at luxury stores for very high prices. This particular purses instantly creates an impression of a late Victorian bag since the body, although new, is commensurate with that period and the frame is from that time period. The body fans outwards at the bottom. The material is a deep black silk that has a slight sheen. The silk is very tightly ruched so that the entire body is composed of pleats. There aren't any flat surfaces. This gives the bag a bulbous appearance. The frame is thick and large. It is a gold tone that has an antiqued appearance. The frame has engravings and etchings throughout. There are four detailed roses that are raised against the flat back. There also are opaque jet cabochons set in ornate bezels. They too "pop out." They are round balls and ovals. Delicate open work is also a part of this frame. A ornate pull tag with a round jewel tops off this fabulous frame. The back is totally engraved and detailed. The bag opens and closes with a "push down" clasp. Two "swans" hold a silk cord carry strap that is knotted towards the top. The drop is 13". This can be extended by untying the knot. Two silk cord tassels are attached at one side. The inside is lined with a silk moire fabric. There is an open pocket and the "revivals" sewn in label is inside. The inside is in great condition, the front of the slip pocket is a little dusty since there was a tissue next to it for many years. The bag measures 9.5"w x 6 1/2"h x 1 1/2"d. The purse was loved and I doubt it was ever used. Its condition is wonderful. This bag has the appearance of a purse that came out of that time period. It is a perfect "marriage". It holds a lot and the tight pleating creates a dramatic effect. Perfect for Queen Victorian during her endless mourning period! Condition: Excellent VINTAGE Condition
