Alexander Korda produced the classic movie "The Thief of Bagdad" in 1940. It was the story of a poor Persian boy and his beautiful princess and included magic carpets, a huge genie and a masked magician. Today the tale of "Aladdin" best resembles this Arabian movie hit. The movie was such a success that the Rice Weiner Co was procured to produce a licensed line of Korda jewelry based on the movie. These jewelry items all had a Persian flair, some being whimsical others being adorned with sparkles and jewels. This line of costume jewelry remains very collectible today and can be quite expensive. The jewelry has maintained a relevancy in today's market since it is so classic and timeless. This particular bracelet is fully adorned with stones that are on a filigreed and detailed gold tone background. There are three large medallions which are connected to one another and there are an additional two slightly smaller ones on the ends. All the medallions have meticulous cut out work. The filigree is hardly seen since the surface is so densely covered with jewels and faux pearls. The work is built upwards so that they are somewhat domed shaped. The metal work is layered into what resembles a jeweled encrusted flower. The jewels range from the tiniest pin point size to larger marquis shaped stones. The glass jewels are the deep and bright colors of semi precious stones. The deep cream colored faux pearls embellish the piece as do touches of enameling. The bracelet has dimension and depth. The medallions attach to one another with rings. The back shows the filigree work. The bracelet closes with a decorative clasp that pushes upwards. A metal slot on the other end fits into this clasp and its lid is shut down to securely close the piece. There is a panel on the back engraved with the words "Thief of Bagdad Korda." The panel as well as other areas of the gold tone show tarnish and wear. This, to me, gives it a nice patina. The bracelet measures 7 1/2"in length, 1 1/2" tall and 1/2"d. There are a few missing stones nut it wasn't until I looked it over the third time did I see them. I didn't want to raise the price of this gorgeous piece by sending it to the restorer especially since you don't notice it among the many other stones. This bracelet is for the lady who is a lover of fantasy or is a romantic dreamer. This movie took its viewers to a land of enchantment. Perhaps wearing this bracelet will be magical to you too!
