Something a little different from Gerda Lynggaard. While a majority of Monies necklaces have multi strands and are beaded, Gerda and her husband Nikolai Monies also made some single strand items, usually with a tribal vibe and always a statement maker. This necklace is just that! The Monies brand, out of Copenhagen, was a trend setter before their time because they used items direct from nature, a relatively new idea for the late 1970's. They were an instant hit and their jewelry is highly collectible and sell in their boutiques in every fashion capital of the world. This necklace is a long single strand that is completely covered with interesting and unusual ethnic or tribal charms. These charms vary in size, shape and materials used. However, they share a common element, that is they are all round and circular. There are small rounds and large ones. The large ones have a diameter of 1 3/4", the smallest ones 3/4". These tubular circles all have holes in the middle for the connective thick silk thread. They are either a rich chocolate brown or a slightly hammered looking domed gold. They are made of resin or metal. Many of the larger plastic circles have floating "bubbles" (small circles) throughout creating a whimsical and unique appearance. They are translucent and the light can shine through them casting them a honey amber color. These charms connect with a knotted brown silk thick thread. As if that isn't enough, there is a huge amulet in the middle. It is a shiny and smooth resin (?) and it looks like a very abstract ram's head to me since it has what appear to be horns. Look at the pictures and see what you see. It is thick and chunky and large measuring almost 3" h x 2"w x 1/2"d. It is honey colored and is streaked with caramel and darker hues throughout. It has depth and dimension and the front is not flat. Primitive but sophisticated at the same time. The necklace closes with a loop made of the thread and a dark brown resin peg. The small gold "Gerda Lynggaard"identification tag is attached by the closure. The necklace has a drop of 17" including the pendant and it is 33" from end to end. The necklace is in great condition. Unmistakably Gerda Lynggaard, this necklace goes with jeans and that "little black dress." The necklace is so detailed that it never ceases to amaze. Just gorgeous!
