Who best to design accessories for women than other women themselves. The Lujean fashion brand was partnered by two women, Miss Lucy and Miss Jean in the 1930's. They specialized in evening wear and stressed dressy styles that would complement dinner costumes and evening attire. Women understand femininity and these two designers instinctively knew what women wanted. The small dressy bag was perfect for the dinner date or formal gathering then and today it is equally perfect. The bag is that classic and timeless. It shape has curves and straight lines. The fabric is a sturdy silk faille or silk taffeta (I am not an expert in textiles). It is sturdy and strong. It is exquisitely ruched so that produced are a intricate pattern of pleats and folds. The ruching is only at the corners of the frame while the middle is not ruched. Consequently the resulting appearance seems to be layered and is very special. The color is a deep and regal aubergine purple. There is a matte gold tone frame. The clasp is the statement maker of the bag and is not usually seen as an adornment to a bag. In order to open the bag,
a large hand painted porcelain oval plaque must be lifted. The jewelry brooch like piece signed by the artist R. Meyers. It is a bouquet of flowers with roses and greenery. Some roses are in full bloom while others are still buds. The flowers are done in shades of pink with hints of blue and white. The palette is finely detailed. The background is tender shades of blue, light yellow and peach. This oval jewelry quality piece is set in a decorative bezel , the back is a shiny gold tone metal. The oval measures 2 1/4"h x 1 1/2"w. What a beautiful decorative accent! The carry strap is made of the same fabric and there is a drop of 4 1/2". Even the carry strap is decoratively pinched. The inside is a navy blue satin like fabric. There is an open pocket with the original mirror attached inside. There are two sewn in labels: "Bonwit Tellers New York Boston" (Bonwit Tellers was a luxury fifth avenue department store) and "Lujean". The inside is in excellent condition without any real indications of wear or use. The bag measures 6"h x 7"w x 1 1/2"d. The bag is in wonderful condition. There are a few professional repairs on the fabric that can only be seen when looked for and even then, they are so perfectly done, that they are very hard to find between the fabric layers. The frame show a little wear. However, all in all, the bag still maintains an excellent- rating.*** As a woman, this bag makes my heart "skip a beat." The plaque epitomizes femininity in a graceful and soft manner while the color stresses the strength and self confidence of women. The ying and the yang. That's what makes us great! Condition: Excellent - VINTAGE Condition
*** The “fading” seen on the front of the bag is actually the camera projecting a very subtle spot where the “fading” is very slight. The camera exaggerates everything many times over.
The bag is as stated in the description and is wonderful.***
