This French handbag, circa late 1940's thru 1950's, is a little different from most others of this genre. Most bags were either silk or beaded with embroidery and enameling. They were sold in different stores with exclusive addresses in Paris, such as Charles Blair, the store where this bag was sold. These French bags remain beautiful to this day and present a quality not reproduced since then (except for the ultra expensive custom or couture bags). This bag deviates from the norm. It is larger than most and can fit a lot of today's necessities (?). It is rectangular in shape (taller than wide) with rounded bottom corners. It is made from a soft black silk that is quilted in vertical stripes. The stripes are thin and they have a slight "tufted" look (like corduroy). The bottom fourth of the bag is different since these "stripes" are presented in a swirling wavelike pattern. This adds significant interest to the bag. There is a small silk tab as well as a metal tab below the frame which expedites the opening of the bag. The frame is black enamel with gold trim. The front, back and top of the frame are embedded with milky white faux pearls each set in a gold tone bezel. They protrude upwards or outwards and provide depth and dimension to the bag. There are 32 faux pearls. The pearls give the bag a elegant and feminine quality and is very striking. There is a carry strap made of the same striated silk and lined with a solid silk. The drop is 8". The inside is lined with a royal blue satin fabric and there are three open silk pocket, one for a lipstick tube. These pockets are trimmed with gold trim, an indication of a high end bag. "Charles Blair 374 R. St. Honore Paris" is imprinted in gold inside. The inside is in exceptional condition and is very clean. The measurements are 8 1/2"w x 8"h x 2 1/2"d. The bag is in great condition, there are the most minimal signs of age and use. No big deal but mentioned for accuracy. Many ladies need to have their phones with them, I get it. This bag provides the room for that. It is also a smart, sophisticated and elegant French bag. It is timeless and classic. I could see it on the wrist of Audrey Hepburn, you get the picture! Condition: Excellent VINTAGE Condition
