This clutch and wallet is not for everyone. We all know that the "torn and tattered" look in fashion is especially popular now (especially in denim). However, creative designer Barbara Bolan was a trend setter in this "worn" look in the 1980's when she foresaw the trend and created this "worn" look clutch and matching wallet. Barbara Bolan only produced bags for a short period of time starting in the '80's and ending production in 1993. She, as displayed here, had a style sense that coordinated with current fashion trends. Hence the "used" look. This bag looked vintage before it actually was vintage. You have to love the look of this bag in order to appreciate its creativity. I happen to love it. The bag is a rectangular clutch and is medium sized. It has an asymmetrical flap. It is made of a muddy and deep dark brown leather that is soft to the touch. It is durable. The bag is soft cased not hard structured. What is especially interesting about the design is that there are "sticks" of colored leather inserted within the leather. They appear to be randomly floating around and are recessed within the leather and stitched all around. They are colorful and contrast with the dark brown. The colors are green, gold, red, blue, butterscotch and burgundy. They "pop" but not too much. They add interest and surprise to the bag. The bag closes with two snaps under the flap. The inside is lined in an "unworn" brown leather and suede on the inner gussets. There is a sewn in cloth "For Barbara Bolan Too Made in Italy" label. The inside is mostly clean. The clutch measures 10" x 6 1/2"h x 2"d. The wallet is a smaller version of the clutch. The same distressed leather with the floating colored sticks. There are three inner open compartments and a zippered pocket. The sewn in label is also there. The clutch is in great shape. There might be "newer" markings on the back of the bag, but all are consistent with the look and in this case it really doesn't matter. The same is to be said for the wallet. No matter how much "moxie" you have, this set cannot be worn to a formal affair, unless the dress is purposely torn and tattered. But for an everyday look with jeans, it is perfect and very unique.
