The first word that came to my mind when I saw this stunning belt by Valentino Garavani was "denim". The visual in my mind was coordinating this belt with denim apparel be it jeans, a prairie skirt or even a dress. The image in my mind was vintage, retro, western and the '70's. Of course, the belt would be spectacular with many other colors and outfits. However, in every case the belt represents Valentino's eye for couture and fanatical craftsmanship. The belt is quite large and is made of various components that are combined to create a unique and appealing belt. The leather is a thick chestnut/caramel color and there is open work that simulates leaves. There is a huge center "flower" that has layers of stylized "petals" and a gigantic greenish blue cabochon that is set in a raised and engraved bezel. The color appears to be a deep turquoise and it resembles a "scarab." The stone is highly polished and smooth. This oval stone measures 1 1/2h" x 1"w. The flower resembles a rose and the original tag names the belt "rose belt." It is interesting that this focal piece is not in the center of the belt but is placed to one side. The attached open work petals are fixed onto the belt with antiqued gold tone studs. The decorative portion of the belt measures 18". The rest of the belt is unadorned brown leather and at each end there are thin leather strips that are tied to close the belt. Each leather strand is capped with an open work leaf. The back of the flower has a tarnished gold tone panel with the Valentino "V". ""V" Valentino Garavani is pressed into the back as well as "Made in Italy." The original red tag is still attached, one side in Italian, the other in English. The belt measures 28" wide (the leather portion) plus the 2 leather strands that measure 38"each. Obviously this belt will fit everyone! Its height varies from 3" to 5". The belt comes with its original dust bag. The belt has not been used. Over time a small part of the smooth leather section has lost some of its smoothness. and there are slight variations in the color. Really not a big deal. This belt is unique and gorgeous. It is so retro and yet it is so today. It reinforces Valentino Garavino's reputation as a historic designer of women's fashion. Condition: Excellent VINTAGE Condition *NOS*
