That's the thing with costume jewelry: it looks great and you don't have to worry about it. The "real stuff" is wonderful but it is not worry free. In fact, there was an actress (I believe it was Elizabeth Taylor, but I could be wrong) who had a duplicate costume jewelry replica of all her genuine gems. She wore the fakes and kept the real stuff safely hidden away. When designed by creative and skilled artisans costume jewelry can easily be mistaken for genuine. Such is the case with this fabulous choker style necklace by Judith Leiber. I believe this piece to date from the late '80's. It is a band of shiny gold tone metal upon which there are Florentine gold segments. The sections or segments vary in size with the largest being in the middle of the necklace. They are articulated and layered over the shiny gold. THey are curved and rounded. In the middle of each piece is a large Swarovski crystal. The crystals are bezel set and are layered on top of the Florentine gold. This multi layered design is dimensional and has depth. The necklace closes with a push in clasp. The "Judith Leiber" cartouche is engraved on the back. The necklace measures 16"in length and is 1" at its widest. The necklace is in great condition with just a few minor indications of age and wear. The contrast between the shiny gold and the brushed like gold is significant. The necklace has many vibes. I see it as modern, industrial, Egyptian revival (Cleopatra, here's Elizabeth Taylor again!) and deco. It is chunky and dramatic and a definite head turner. Judith Leiber at her best. People will wonder if it is real! Condition: Excellent VINTAGE Condition
