When you have a boutique store on Madison Ave you are considered "serious". Such was the case with designers Susan Bennis and Warren Edwards during the late '70's thru mid '90's. So serious was their designs that they were compared to Manilo Blanik. They specialized in footwear and their creations had limited runs. They used luxurious leathers and skins of exotic reptiles. Their detailing was spectacular and unusual. Their boots were exceptional and of course a fine leather company would dabble in handbag design. This unusually large sequined handbag is an example of their propensity for unusual design. The bag is a shoulder bag but can also be carried as a clutch bag. It has a fold over flap the size of the bag. The back, bottom and gussets are covered with a silky black satin fabric. The front, however, is different. It is covered with segments of black, yellow, red and blue silk satin. These segments are wavy and squiggly in shape. They are curvy and billowy. They are covered with streams of sequins that are clear or clear with an aurora tint. The sequins covering the black sections give off a faint violet and green aura as does the blue section. The entire palette of sequins seems to have a white wash effect. In certain lights the sequins sparkle and shine although the luster is toned down. The squiggles give a sense of movement to the bag. Amazing and unusual. Lifting the front flap, the bag closes with a snap. There is a braided silk cord that is the carry strap. The drop is 23". The inside is lined with black leather (a luxury bag) and there is an open slip pocket and a zippered pocket. The zippered pocket is lined in a pale yellow moire fabric (another indication of a luxury bag). The fabric "Susan Bennis Warren Edwards Handmade in Italy" label is sewn inside the bag. An original mirror is included. The inside is in great condition. The bag measures 10 1/2" w x 7 3/4"h x 2"d. The bag is in wonderful condition. There are a very few sequins missing. Not really noticeable. This is a very different and carefully made handbag. It can be dressed up or down....goes with jeans or a black and sleek evening gown. It is a shame that this duo of designers are no longer in business because they sure did know what they were doing! Condition: Excellent VINTAGE Condition
