Christopher Cross in the legendary song "Sailing" wrote ..."Sailing takes me away to where I always want it to be...". Well, even if you are land locked, this delightful nautical handbag will take you where you want to be, namely the sea side. The bag was created during the mid century by Lily Bet, a designer of the Palm Beaches. It is shaped like a train case purse, a style popular during that time period, but it is on the small side. There are straight lines and rounded curves. It is covered with a white vinyl material that is slightly tufted on the top lid. It is a high quality vinyl that could pass as leather. This is a very well made bag. There are bands of shiny gold tone metal on the top of the bag's body and the bottom of the lid. However, it is the decorative accents that stand out. There are fabric appliques representing nautical symbols such as anchors, ship's wheel and a sailing boat. Naturally they are done in red, white and blue. Red and blue stones highlight these accents. There are painted sea gulls and "Florida" is written in grey on the front of the bag. A very large anchor is on the flat surface of the lid. To top all this off, there is a rounded thick clear lucite handle with a drop of 3 1/2". The bag opens and closes with a thick and shiny gold tone push up tab. There is a sturdy piano hinge connecting the top and bottom of the bag. The inside is lined with a gorgeous cotton paisley fabric done in red and blue on a gold background. There is an open slip pocket and an oval mirror on the back of the lid that is bordered with a fancy white trim. The entire lid of the bag is also lined with an elaborate border done in red, white and blue trim. This is a very usual addition to a purse and it is evidence that this is a very high end bag. There is a sewn in label stating "Designed by Lily Bet filbert imports of the Palm Beaches" along with a symbol of a palm tree. The inside is in fabulous condition without any significant evidence of age or wear. There are four small shiny gold tone buttons on the bottom for protection. The bag measures 8"w x 5"h x 4 1/2"d. The bag is in great condition. There are minuscule signs of wear on the lid's edge. Whether you are on a cruise or a vacation in the mountains, this bag will put you on a sail boat and will take you away "sailing." Condition: Excellent VINTAGE Condition
