I know it looks like a Leiber, but it isn't. It is in the Leiber style of minaudieres and is a very good representation of the "real thing." Although it was not made by the Leiber company, it was made by another company, the Walborg Corporation,a company that created all types of bags from the late 1940's thru the early 1970's. Their bags were diverse and well made and they are especially known to collectors for their beaded "poodle" bags. This bag is especially unusual since most crystal encrusted purses were created by the Leiber company. The first Leiber metal bag with rhinestones was made in 1967. Perhaps Walborg copied the idea from Leiber???? Who knows??? All I know is that it is unusual to find this type of purses credited to any other designer than Leiber in the mid century time period. The purse is rectangular with rounded corners. It is hard cased. It is fully encrusted with Swarovski crystals both in silver and gold tones. The crystals shimmer and glisten with an constant glimmer. The pattern is a diamond pattern with the gold crystals defining the diamonds which are covered in the silver crystals. The surface appears to be quilted as the diamonds are slightly raised from the gold lines. Of course, there isn't any quilting since the body is made of metal. However, the illusion creates depth and dimension. There is a thick border of gold crystals that goes along the perimeter of the purse. There is a sturdy piano type hinge. The bag opens and closes with a push down gold tone metal tab. There is an internal mechanism that allows the gold tone carry strap to stay inside in order to wear the bag as a clutch. The chain is a bright gold that appears braided. It is a high quality chain with a drop of 18". The inside is lined in a soft brown felt like material. It is bordered with brown lace trim. The cloth "Walborg Made in Italy" label is affixed inside. There are minuscule signs of age and wear. The bag measures 6"w x 4 1/2"h x 1"d. The minaudiere is in wonderful condition without any major issues to note. There is no question that Leiber is the queen of minaudieres. However, this Walborg gives Leiber a "run for her money." It is sure to be noticed and probably mistaken for a Leiber by others. What you say, is up to you entirely!!!! Condition: Excellent VINTAGE Condition
