There is nothing more classic than a kelly bag, especially a Kelly bag made of exotic skins. This absolutely gorgeous and classy early bag by Lucille de Paris, circa 1940's -'50's, is probably made of the skins of the porosus crocodile, a salt water creature known for its marvelous skins. Lucille de Paris, a brand that is often confused as being out of Paris, actually is a company out of New York that began its business to compete with European fashion houses. Their items were made in the USA and were sold only in high end and upscale department stores. The quality of their bags was just as fine as any European brand. They closed shop at the end of the 1960's when demand for exotic skins began to wane due to federal laws. This is a very early Lucille de Paris bag and it remains a "grand lady." It is a medium sized brown Kelly bag. The color is a medium brown coffee color that shows graduations from light to dark. The crocodile skins used are from the center belly cuts and they are perfectly matched on each side of the bag. The skins are not heavily glazed so that they have a slight sheen but are not as shiny as many skin bags. The skins are in great shape and are pliable and not dry. There is no cracking or tears. The skins have great texture and are not flat but raised. The pattern created by the scales is most interesting since the smaller scales complement the larger scales in the middle. The frame is completely covered with the skins with the exception of the gold tone clasp in the middle. This clasp is of the lift up type. It is a matte gold tone and has a ridged side. The clasp shows its age as does the rest of the metal frame. There are two carry straps of the exotic skins and there is a drop of 5". The inside is lined with black leather. There are 3 open slip pockets and one zippered pocket. The Lucille de Paris cloth label is affixed inside. It reads " Croco Sauvage Rugged and Free Each Mark the Evidence of a Wild Fighter....Tamed by Lucille de Paris." WOW!!! The inside is essentially clean with some evidence of wear and age. The measurements of the bag are 10"w x 7 1/2" x 2 1/2"d. Considering the bag is almost 70 years old, its condition is very good. There are signs of age on the skinned carry straps, a likely condition of this type of handle. Most often a bag of this age would have their exotic skin handles removed and replaced with gold chains. These handles are no way near that condition, they just are not perfect. This handbag maintains its stately appearance just like that grand old dame. A few creaks, but we should all look so good at that age! Condition: Very Good+ Vintage Condition
