This is a rare find! Corde bags from the 1940's are plentiful but a multi colored corde bag is rare to find and highly unusual. Especially a bag where the corde isn't flat but stitched in a raised pattern. Corde or gimp bags were made during the period of World War II when alternative materials needed to be used because of the war effort. These bags were varied in size, shape and color used. This bag is a high quality bag although there isn't any indication of the maker (most bags were manufactured by the "Corde" company). The bag is rather large and is similar to a satchel type. It is slightly wider at the bottom than at the top. The corde is bright since the threads are all primary colors: red, yellow, blue and green. The colors are interwoven into raised "knots" . There is dimension as well as texture natural to all corde bags. The "knots" appear to "pop" out. The top two inches of the bag are woven into flatter straight lines, a great contrast to the puffy knots. The colors are intertwined throughout. The bag closes with a zipper and there is a round multi colored corde ball at the end as a pull tag. The clear lucite chain is equally remarkable. It is made of intertwined rings that appear to be two chains that connect to one another. Consequently the chain appears chunky and thick. Amazing! The drop is 5". The inside is a navy shiny material. There is an open slip pocket. It is very clean inside as though it was never used. The bag measures 14"w x 6 1/2"h x 4"d. The bag is in wonderful condition. The top 2" band tends to fold over, probably due to gravity. This creates a bib overlay effect. It does stand up when manipulated to be straight. This is mentioned for accuracy and to me isn't an
issue. Unusual, high quality, versatile, funky, timeless and interesting are words to describe this rare beauty from the past. A real find! Condition: Excellent VINTAGE Condition
