Mahler, a company based in California in the 1960's, produced bags that exemplified the vibe of that decade. Their bags, of which I have had a few in the past, usually were brightly colored with designs that were a bit "groovy." Their trademark was button like accents attaching the handles to the bag and an inside pouch that is made of a clear plastic. This bag has that '60's groove but it is tame compared to others. It is octagon shaped and made from a light beige leather (?). The leather is very smooth, flat and has subtle "clouds" of tan hues of color. The focal point of the bag is a needlepoint that has a black background. The design is "pschedelic" but it is done in soft colors so the effect is somewhat muted. Pinks, gold, greens and red are used for the design. It covers most of the front of the bag. There are two carry handles attached by the aforementioned "buttons". The drop is 6" with the drop to the buttons being 8". The bag has a flap that comes from behind and a twist button which fits into a slot for closure. There are four metal "buns" on the bottom for protection. The inside is a cow hide leather. There is a clear plastic open pocket and the "MAHLER California" stamped on it. The inside is very clean. The bag measures 15.5"h x 10"w x 3"d. The bag is in great condition. The metal hardware, especially the protective feet, show some metal wear and there are a few minimal sign of wear. I just love Mahler bags. They are interesting and timeless. Yet they all convey that spirit of the '60's and of California. This bag is no exception to that. So "cool."
