This purse is very similar to a Leiber purse that is displayed in her museum. The Leiber bag is circa 1972 while this one is probably a decade earlier. The coincidence is that Leiber at one time worked for Koret. Obviously the skill and craftsmanship exhibited by the Koret company continued as Leiber designed purses under her own name. Koret designed for high end luxury stores. This bag combines the old and the new. It has a ying yang effect. The body of the bag is very full and plump. The material is classic black cut velvet. It is black on black with most of the bag covered with the slightly raised black velvet. The front and back have a large fleur de lis as the central motif with scrolls and vines surrounding it. The bag is ruched at the top resulting in soft pleating. Now for the "twist". The frame is not classic looking but rather has a modern vibe. It is thick and chunky. It is scalloped and made of a shiny gold tone metal. There are six large onyx cabochons in a prong setting. They are round and polished and they are raised. Looking at the frame from above, there are tiny studs in the metal. They are also on the sides of the frame. This is a most unusual feature. There is a gold tone carry chain with large modern links. The bag opens and closes with a twist lock. The inside is lined with red leather. There are two open slip pockets. "KORET" is inscribed in gold with the iconic gazelle leaping on top of the identification. A plastic comb, theater stub from Dec 4,1962 and bill of some sort dating 11/2/62 was found inside. The inside is very clean. The measurements are 9 1/2"w (at its widest) x 7"h x 5". The bag is in great condition. There are faint "halos" around the stones as a result of age. These are not very obvious and are mentioned for accuracy. One corner of the frame is slightly bent in. Again mentioned for accuracy. This is a stunning bag that extrudes sophistication and class. It is very versatile and has a very unique look. Condition: Excellent - - VINTAGE Condition
