Lucite handbags were very popular in the 1950's. They had a "space age" vibe and clear lucite was especially liked. Perhaps clear lucite popularity was because clear lucite has no secrets as everything inside can be seen. Of course, you can use a brightly colored scarf to cover the contents. Whatever the reason, a clear lucite handbag is very retro. This handbag is made with slabs of thick clear lucite that are joined together. Each component is 1/8" thick. The shape is predominantly curved and rounded. The bottom is straight and flat. It is like an oval with one linear side. There is a sturdy piano type hinge connecting the top to the bottom. There is a large clear tab closure. It too is rounded and straight. It extends outwards at the bottom. It connects to the bag with darkened silver tone hardware. There are two curved handles to carry the bag. The drop is 4 3/4". The bag is in very good condition. There are faint scratches especially on the bottom. It could use a cleaning and the inside hinge shows minor tarnishing. The bag measures 8 1/4"w x 4 1/8"h x 3 3/8". This bag could have been a prop on the Woody Allen movie "Sleeper" set in a future time. It's simplicity makes it very interesting and its retro vibe is obvious. Just a fun blast from the past!!!! "Blast off." Condition: Excellent VINTAGE Condition
