Nobody goes back in time like Pauline Rader. A mid century jewelry designer, Pauline Rader concentrated her effects into creating pieces that represent olden times. Many items were Byzantine or Roman and her creations were usually large and statement making. She only produced jewelry for a short amount of time and consequently her creations are highly collectible and widely sought. This chunky and large statement necklace is "true to form." This necklace has a gold tone chain that has large and thick oval links. The links are uniquely connected so that they appear to be "doubled." (See pictures). Each link has flat"spots" on the rounded metal which increases the shine and sparkle of the necklace. The necklace closes with ring closures. The necklace measures 26" long. Yet it is the huge pendant that hangs from the necklace that makes the statement. It is a large round antique "coin" that depicts the profile of "Maria Theresia" in relief. The profile is finely detailed with facial features, hair and attire accented. The words "MARIA THERESIA D. C. REG HUNG BOH." There are 7 smaller coins dangling from the large coin. These little coins are an exact replica of the larger coin only much smaller in size. What attention to detail! The coins dangle from a decorative piece at the bottom of the large coin and there are ornate accents at the sides and top. The entire piece is backed by an embellished "plate" that has the "Pauline Rader" cartouche. The pendant measures 2 1/8" w x 3 1/4"h. The necklace is in great shape with a bit of wash wear only to be expected with an item of this age. It is not bad and adds to the "panache" of the necklace. Fabulous necklace by a skilled designer. Even though it represents olden time, it is totally in sync with today. Condition: Excellent- VINTAGE Condition
