Sometimes I see a purse at first glance and I think that it must be a Judith Leiber. But NO, invariably it is a Colombetti!!!!! Remarkably similar to a Leiber bag, handbags by Colombetti are obvious in the craftsmanship, design and use of quality materials. Yet the price point is much lower! Colombetti started out in Milan in 1947 and they still have a shop in Milan's fashion district. Marion Colombetti, the founder of the company produced high quality bags of different materials such as exotic skins, leather and rhodoid/Luicite. This bag is made of python snakeskin. The scales are varied in size from large to small. They have a bright sheen and the entire bag shines. The skins are dyed a mocha brown with spots of muted evergreen green throughout. Sort of tie dyed but much more subtle. The skins are heavily ruched at the top which results in soft and gentle pleats. These pleats or folds are, at times, puffy resulting in a dimensional appearance. This causes some uplifting of the scales but this is normal with this type of skin (in fact, Leiber's care card often mentions the "normalcy" of up lifting scales). All in all, the bag presents wonderfully. There is a shiny gold tone scalloped frame which has the python skin in between the edges. A thin rim of gold is left and definitely adds to the interest of the frame. The closure too is a shiny goldtone and it comes from behind and snaps shut. The front panel is covered with snakeskin. There is a snakeskin carry strap with a drop of 19". There are punch hole to make is larger or smaller. It is not stiff (as often is the case) and shows some wear or age, but certainly not a lot. The carry strap is optional and can be kept inside using COlombetti's internal hardware. The inside is lined with a mild chocolate brown soft leather and there is an open pocket and a zippered pocket with an internal strip of snakeskin (a sign of a high quality bag). The inside is in great condition with minimal signs only at the very bottom. The gold tone cartouche stating "Colombetti Milano Made in Italy" is affixed inside. And to top it all off, this bag is huge for its kind. It measures 12"w x 7"h x 2 1/2+". I do not think this bag was ever used. The condition is exceptional. Easily affordable, this Colombetti handbag can be dressed up or down. Stylish, sophisticated and timeless, this bag is a BIG winner! Condition: Excellent VINTAGE Condition
