Nettie Rosenstein created fabulous jewelry of which many had a heraldic and "coat of arms" theme. Rosenstein began her career as a dress maker and was very successful. She, in fact, created the concept of the "little black dress." In 1961 she discontinued her clothing line and concentrated on costume jewelry. Many pieces were vermeil (gold plate over sterling silver) and she also expressed herself with her regal heraldic designs. Fit for a queen!!!! This pendant necklace is large, substantial and chunky. It is quite a statement piece. The pendant is huge measuring 3 3/4"h x 2 1/8"w x 1/4"d. It is gold tone and layered. The exquisite coat of arms is placed upon a shiny gold tone stepped flat rectangular plaque. The coat of arms is highly detailed with a checkerboard pattern topped with a crown. There are detailed "creatures" holding the shield at the sides. These figures are a bit bizarre looking having reptilian characteristics. There are additional ornate accents on the shield and surrounding it. Since it is layered, there is dimension and depth to the piece. The bottom has 8 dangles which consist of small gold tone balls ending with sharp "dagger" like beads. All this gives the pendant a strong presence and importance. The back is a FLorentine textured gold tone and the Nettie Rosenstein identification is stamped in a cartouche. The pendant is glorious ! Equally so is the chain. It is a heavy and thick curb link chain. The individual links are curvy yet also flat when you look closely at them. It is weighty and chunky. It is finely executed and beautifully crafted. You can see the quality of it immediately just by looking at it. It closes with a hook and eye closure. There are no issues with this piece. It is in great shape without any wear on the plating. The chain itself measures 26" long including the closure. The links are 1/4'h. It isn't often the a Rosenstein heraldic piece of jewelry comes around in such good condition. This piece is sure to be noticed and although over 50 years old presents itself as timeless and classic. After all, it conjures up images of the age of knights and chivalry and that is indeed a long time ago. Again, fit for royalty! Condition: Excellent+ VINTAGE Condition
