This wonderful Italian bag, circa 1980's, was created by Braccialini, a firm based in FLorence that is noted for its creativity, color and fantasy. Started in 1954, Carla Braccialini and her husband established a small workshop employing 4-5 employees. Since then they have expanded into 40 countries with 50 mono brand stores globally . There bags usually offer a bold use of colors, a mix of different materials and lots of details. THey have a very funky side to their bags and have produced purses n the shape of tomatoes, taxis and owls. Being attracted to the funkiness of the brand , I bought a Braccialini bag about 30 years ago and remember how much I loved the bag and wore it till it screamed "No More." THis bag is a little more sedate while still maintaining the Braccialini characteristic of having a lot going for it. And yet it maintains a look of high quality and skilled craftsmanship. This purse is covered with a soft and slightly shiny black material. Looked at very closely there appears to be very, very faint "stitching" patterns throughout the fabric. The bottom section of the bag has lovely and delicate black stitching forming soft and large flowers that transverse the entire bottom section. The stitching (called passementiere) is usually done in black silk cord and it is raised from the surface of the bag. The top section also has passementiere but this time the stitching is done in tight swirls. In addition to the tight swirls there is another band of trim that is sewn over this pattern. Amazing craftsmanship!!!! THis technique and how it is crafted on this purse, reminds me of other passementiere done by Judith Leiber. The skill on this purse equals the skill of a JL bag. If all this is not enough, there is a large black satin bow centered in the middle of the top section of the purse. It is adorned with an elaborate ornament that includes a faux domed pearl, prong set rhinestones and gold tone cut work. This center piece includes a stationary medallion and a dangling accent. There is a thin leather carry strap with a drop of 21". The bag opens and closes with two snaps. The inside is lined with black leather and there is a zippered pocket. The silver tone identification panel stating "braccialini genuine leather made in Italy" is affixed inside. THe inside is in great condition. No problems here. The purse measures 11"w (at the bottom) 6"h x 3"d. The bag is in wonderful condition without any real issues to mention. This bag has it all. It can be dressed up or down, Although there is a lot going on, somehow it all works. In this case, "more is more." Could be mistaken for JL and that says something!!!!!
