This is such a wonderful and unique piece! Worn only by Chinese noblewomen to protect their fingernails, this was a symbol of the aristocracy and an indicator that the wearer did no manual labor. Made of silver with lovely enameling, this piece probably dates from the 30's. The guard is suspended from a genuine silk cord that measures approx. 34". The fingernail guard has been made in to a pendant and measures 2 1/2" long and 1/2" wide. There's a single cloisonne bead above the pendant. This is a very unique piece of Orientalia and it's in good condition! Please feel free to contact with any questions and thank you!
