This is a very nice vintage 16" light gold (champagne colored) mohair teddy bear made by the Chad Valley Co. Ltd. in England. This bear is very typical of the bears made from 1938-1950's. I found him pictured on page 62 in the book, Teddy Bear Encyclopedia by Pauline Cockrill. He is fully jointed, soft stuffed and has a non-working growler inside his tummy. He retains most of his mohair with some bare patches here and there. I have pictured the worst place on top of his left paw. This bear has a very sweet face, embroidered nose and mouth and glass eyes. He has worn rexine material paw pads. He also has two remnants of his original identification. You can see the zigzag stitching on the left foot pad that held the Royal Warrant label and the remains of his chest tag. That chest tag has blue letters and once said "Hygienic Toys Made in England by Chad Valley Co. Ltd." The earlier bears had the little cloth tag sewn into the chest seam, later it was sewn in the arm seam. This was the chosen teddy bear company for the Royal family. He is a very special little fellow!
