I don't recall my parents ever using these. They are in such pristine condition that maybe they never did. They are markers or labels for sandwiches on a buffet or party table. The sandwiches contained egg, ham, cheese, salmon (canned of course) and egg 'n cress. This was standard party fare when I was young - almost any other filling would have been unthinkable.
Very mid-century and would look great in an appropriately themed party setting. I photographed the backs of four before I realised I had another. Egg 'n cress doesn't quite match the others - cleverly illustrating as it does the two colours involved - but undoubtedly was bought with them and they have always lived together, so it would be a shame to separate them now.
