A handsome and somehow cheerful dish - it brings a smile to my face. It could be used for pickles, or equally for strawberries and thick cream (yum!).
In the style known as Gaudy Welsh, in an Imari palette - cobalt blue, iron red and gilding on a beautiful cream body - it is mid to late Nineteenth Century. It measures a little over ten inches in length by five inches at the widest by about two and a half inches in height to the top of the handle. (26cm x 14cm x 8cm)
I have looked carefully and used my fingertips and it is absolutely perfect. It was obviously 'kept for best'.
