A superb pair of Royal Doulton cabinet plates, with cobalt blue rims and extensive but delicate gilding. In superb condition with no chips or cracks, these plates measure 10.5 inches (26.5cm) in diameter. Marked Made in England, Bone China, Royal Doulton, England, with 13 to the right and x below. This mark was used between 1932 and 1973. Impressed mark - impossible to photograph - 1540, probably for the shape. Decorator's marks have been crossed out and an X placed against them. If this implies some kind of flaw, I can't find it, other than what looks like some wear to the gilding in places, but could be incomplete application. Possibly a loss to the lower right leaf in the central bouquet on one of the plates.
Heavy floral decoration round the edge, with a slightly less decorated centre which allows the white body to offset the central bouquet.
