This sturdy little mug is too heavy for my jewellery scales. My kitchen scales say it weighs 260 grams. Made by the prestigious firm of Mappin and Webb, it clearly bears the Sheffield hallmark for 1923.
It measures 3.3 inches in height and the diameter at the base is 2.8 inches, across the top 2.6 inches. (8.5cm, 7cm, 6.6cm).
This must have been for a little boy. Its sturdiness would have withstood some mistreatment but it does not appear to have received any.
I have left it unpolished - 'patinated' - as some collectors prefer to do their own polishing. However, It makes me itch to polish it and this may change. If you would like it as a gift I can polish it to perfection.
Like almost all these mugs, it is initialled. - N.J.L.H.
