This c1900 tobacco industry promotional advertisement standing brass picture frame for THE KHEDIVIAL CO. is outstanding in it's Neo Gothic design and it's unique spring loaded system for securing picture and glass. "THE KHEDIVIAL CO.", imprinted on the bottom outward facing crossbar of the frame, was a turn of the century cigarette co., distributed it's product in the United States and likely had British (Viceroy is a common english translation for Khedive) and Egyptian origins. The company also produced and distributed in their packs of cigarettes, trading cards featuring popular sports figures, dogs, aeroplanes, etc. which are now valued collectors cards. This simple yet striking frame is an excellent example of gothic revival within the Aesthetic Movement and it's desire to bring art, beauty and good design into the everyday life of men. The patina of the brass shows it's age, and the removable glass plate has some chipping on edges. The springs and overall operation of the frame is very good though I would encourage using a thoughtful touch while putting pictures in place. Lot's of history and good looks. Very worth a closer look at the details.
